When you select one of the lecture programs, a Windows dialogue box will ask if you wish to open the program or save it to your computer.  If you open it, the program will run as a slide show; you will not be able to print the slides for use in class.  To download it, you must select the save option and direct it to your computer or other memory media.  It will then show up on your machine as a pt file which you can load in Power Point. There you can print one of the slides or the whole presentation program for use in class.

Copying a Diagrams from PowerPoint to Microsoft Word
Link to a printable version (pdf) of these directions

To prepare a diagram in one of the ECON 1740 PowerPoint slide presentations for insertion into a Microsoft word document:

In PowerPoint

  1. open the Power Point program
  2. open the Economics 1740 slide show with the diagram you wish to copy and insert into your paper.
  3. block and copy the diagram making sure you get all the labeling components you want in your paper.
  4. open a new side show with a blank white slide
  5. remove the title and text boxes from the blank white slide that loads
  6. select "copy: to insert all the material from the slide program onto the blank slide
  7. ungroup all of elements you copied to the white slide (Failure to ungroup the elements before leaving PowerPoint will sometimes cause some of the labeling to show up in the wrong place when the diagram is pasted into Word.)
  8. change all lines and text colored yellow or light blue to black
  9. delete any material such as the slide title that you don't want to appear in your paper.
  10. select all the elements on the white slide and group them.
  11. copy the group.

In Microsoft Word

  1. open a blank page in Microsoft Word. (At this point, you can paste the group directly into your document. However, a couple of extra steps causes fewer formatting problems).
  2. paste the group copied in step 11 above onto the blank page.
  3. right click the mouse, select the "text wrapping," and choose "square" or "tight." (Selecting "text wrapping followed by square" will create a sizing box around your diagram).
  4. size the box to the desired size and copy the box.
  5. open the paper and go to the point where you want the box.
  6. select paste and position the box where it is needed.
