Group Discussions - Acid Rain
The class discussion for this unit will be about acid rain – where it comes from, what it does, and how it can be prevented. In order to be prepared for this discussion, please spend 45 minutes reading reliable websites or other references. Make sure to find answers to the following questions.
1. What acids does acid rain (and other forms of precipitation) contain?
2. Where do these chemicals come from?
3. How acidic is acid rain?
4. What areas of the world are most affected?
5. What difference does soil composition make in areas where acid rain falls?
6. What are some of the effects of acid rain on lakes, forests, buildings, and people?
7. How can acid rain be prevented?
8. What are the difficulties in preventing acid rain?
If you will be absent on the day of this discussion or are unexpectedly unable to attend, please do the reading assignment, then write a 1-2 page paper explaining this issue. Make sure to answer all of the questions above. You will only receive half-credit for this assignment, since you weren't able to contribute to the class discussion or benefit from others' point of view.
